The issue does not appear to capture the imagination of voters, and this further contributes to political apathy. The upcoming election does provide an opportunity for voters to change their views, and that could change the course of Canadian climate change policy again, including its role on the world stage. Canada has commitments and if it adheres to those commitments it can regain its leadership globally on the issue. However, the policy for the future is likely to be more of what the past five years have been, and this is likely to result in a continued decline in the relevance of Canada in the setting of global foreign policy on climate change.
